I'm sure a lot of people want to earn money while just keeping their bed warm, right? That sure sounds heavenly but that was not what I meant about "the effortless way". By this, I would like to emphasize the word ALMOST. I made money in an almost effortless way by doing something which interests me and which I'm knowledgeable about.
Most money making methods available in the internet are not easy to master. You will have to study those ways carefully before earning any serious amount. I learned that you can earn money through blogging. The problem is, I don't even know how to make a website by then. Sure it can be easy to make one but how can I maintain it? How can I make it rank high in the search engines? How can I monetize it? A lot of studying about these matters still needs to be done. As a born impatient person, I chose to look for other ways of making money immediately without further studying stuffs like SEO, website maintenance, internet marketing and etc. Besides, even if you learn about these concepts, it is unlikely that it will generate you a large income right away.
So here is what I did. I registered to Freelancer for free and browsed available projects. I placed my bid on projects looking for writers from the Philippines (since I am a Filipino). This is to limit the competition and to increase my chances of being selected. True enough, I was hired for this particular project that requires a Filipino writer to write blog posts for a site called magandafilipino.com. This site is particularly made by the owner for his fellow Filipino Americans who wants to rediscover the Philippines. My job was to write posts about any topic related to the Philippines. This certainly was a piece of cake to me! It was just like telling your friend about your favorite Filipino dish, telling about your hometown, or even just telling what you used to do as a child.
He pays me $5 for every 500-1000 word article. This rate is not high but not at all bad for a beginner. Besides, I don't have to do a lot of research since I'm already knowledgeable about the subject. What made it easier was that I have plenty of time for writing the assignments. The arrangement was to submit 5 articles 7 days after the topics have been approved. This is way generous than most article writing projects since the usual turn around time is 24 hours after the project has been given. He sends the payment through Paypal. It is less a hassle than going to the bank or waiting for checks. This enables me to make extra money while working fulltime. So every week for 3 months now, I earn an extra $25 without a single sweat!
